ITINERARY

3 Days in Gold Coast: A Complete Itinerary

Three days is enough to get a genuine feel for the Gold Coast if you don't try to cram in every theme park. Here's a realistic, locally-minded plan.

Three days is a common length for a Gold Coast trip, whether it's the whole holiday or a stopover on a bigger Australian itinerary. This plan spreads things out so you're not racing between attractions — one theme park day, one beach-and-suburb day, and one Hinterland day trip.

Day 1: Theme park day

Pick the park that matches your group — Movie World for ride-and-movie fans, Sea World for marine life and a slightly gentler pace, or Dreamworld for the biggest thrill rides. Arrive at opening to beat the queues on the headline attractions, and check the show schedule (stunt shows, animal presentations, whatever's relevant to your park) as soon as you're through the gate so you can plan your day around it. If you're staying centrally, book a shuttle rather than driving — parking and traffic around the parks build up through the morning.

Day 2: Beach & suburb day

Spend the morning at the beach in whichever suburb you're based — swim between the flags, and if you're near Surfers Paradise or Broadbeach, walk the beachfront promenade before it gets too hot. In the afternoon, head to Burleigh Heads if you're not already there — walk the Burleigh Head National Park loop track for coastal views, then grab a late lunch or coffee on James Street. If surfing's on your list, this is a good afternoon for a lesson; Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Burleigh Heads all have surf schools running most days.

Day 3: Hinterland day trip

Trade the beach for rainforest — Springbrook or Lamington National Park, both roughly 45–60 minutes' drive inland, offer walking tracks, waterfalls and noticeably cooler air, a good contrast after two days on the coast. If a full Hinterland trip feels like too much driving, an easier alternative is a half-day at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, which sits much closer to the coast and still gives you a break from beach and theme-park mode.

Adjusting the plan

  • Travelling with young kids: Swap Day 1's park for Sea World or Paradise Country, which pace better for younger children.
  • No car: Stick to Days 1 and 2 as planned (both work well by tram, shuttle or bus); for Day 3, consider a booked day-tour to the Hinterland instead of self-driving.
  • Have a 4th day? Add a second theme park, or a full day exploring further south around Coolangatta and Palm Beach.
