THEME PARK CAPITAL

Gold Coast Theme Parks

More major theme parks than anywhere else in Australia, all within about a 30-minute drive of each other. Here's how to plan around them without wasting a day of your trip.

The Gold Coast is Australia's theme park capital, with four major parks clustered in the Oxenford–Coomera corridor north of Surfers Paradise, plus Sea World a little further south in Main Beach. If theme parks are the point of your trip, it's worth planning which days go where rather than trying to squeeze everything in.

How many days do you need?

Each major park is realistically a full day if you want to do it properly rather than rush. Movie World, Sea World and Dreamworld each need their own day; WhiteWater World pairs naturally with a Dreamworld day if you've got the energy (or split them across two visits); Paradise Country and Outback Spectacular are shorter, half-day-style experiences that can be combined with something else.

Multi-park passes

Village Roadshow Theme Parks (which operates Movie World, Sea World, Paradise Country and Outback Spectacular) and Dreamworld each sell multi-day and annual pass options that work out cheaper than single-day tickets if you're visiting more than one park or coming back within a year — check current pricing directly with each park before you travel, as ticket structures change.

Getting to the parks

Most parks run shuttle bus services from Surfers Paradise and other central accommodation areas, which is the easiest option if you're not renting a car. If you are driving, all the major parks have on-site parking (usually paid). None of the theme parks sit directly on the G:link tram line, so factor in a bus, shuttle or drive either way.

FAQ

Common questions

Which Gold Coast theme park should I visit first?

It depends on your group — Movie World suits action-ride fans and movie lovers, Sea World suits families and marine-life fans, and Dreamworld has the biggest spread of thrill rides. If you can only pick one, think about what your group actually enjoys rather than which is 'best'.

Are the Gold Coast theme parks within walking distance of each other?

No — Movie World, Dreamworld and WhiteWater World are a short drive apart in the Oxenford/Coomera area, but Sea World is further south in Main Beach. You'll need a car, shuttle or rideshare between them.

How many theme park days should I budget for a Gold Coast trip?

For a proper visit to three major parks, budget three separate days plus travel time — trying to combine two full parks in one day usually means rushing both.
